On May 5th the Metropolitan Opera had the re-staging of 1980 Jean-Pierre Ponnelle's production of La CLemenza di Tito, the one with real Roman locations, panniers and wigs. The production itself is not quite to my taste (Vitellia dragging her enormous skirts through the antique rocks looks plain ridiculous) but I suppose it looks less idiotic in the theater. And I'd give a lot to hear Sr. Ramón Vargas as Tito. A glorious lirico-spinto tenor whose works I've been admiring for a considerable time. I doubt they'll record this one for posterity tho... Pity. Reviews can be found here, here and in a bunch of other places.
Кадр из постановки (фотко © Met): как обычно, Тит и Секст (увы, Сюзан Грэм. Дайте мне сюда Веселину, и я умру счастливой!)
Tito & Sesto (Susan Graham... gimme Vesselina here, and I'll die happy!)
